My Go-To Hairstyle: Fishtail Braid

One hairstyle I LOVE to do with my hair is a fishtail braid! I wear it a lot, when I'm having a bad hair day, when I don't feel like blow drying my hair, when I don't feel like straightening it or when it's too crazy to do anything else with it! I've gotten many compliments from people: friends, co-workers and even strangers, so I decided to share this! About a year ago I started trying to learn how to fishtail braid. I read tutorials and tried and tried again but could never get it! Finally, last summer I found a tutorial that helped me!! It is a video on YouTube from Lauren Conrad and The Beauty Department. This tutorial is great but I figured out something to add.

I have many layers and my hair is always frizzy, so my braid didn't always look the greatest with all my layers sticking out and frizz everywhere! So one day after I got out of the shower, I didn't feel like blow drying my hair so I decided to fishtail braid it. I loved the way it turned out! Since my hair was wet it wasn't frizzy and it helped the layers stay in the braid. I also discovered if I pulled it really tight the layers stayed in, even after it dried. So if you have any issues when fishtailing (is that even a word?!), try braiding your hair when it is wet! That's is the only thing I do differently than in the video (oh, I also don't cut my rubber band because I reuse them!)

Here is the video! I feel it is very easy to follow and she does a great job at explaining it! I literally watched it twice and was able to do it!

Here are a few pictures where I have my hair in a fishtail braid:

Kind of far away from braid, but my hair is wet here and no pieces sticking out...how I like it!

There are still some pieces that will stick out but that's okay, I don't mind some of the messiness! Some people will say that a fishtail braid is supposed to be messy and falling apart, but I don't like that look. When all of my layers start sticking out I think it just looks awful. I feel like people with longer hair can get away with it looking messy because random pieces fall out, not a whole layer!

If you have any questions please ask!!!!!! :)
